Balance
Life isn’t always steady and smooth, sometimes it’s like balancing on a balance beam. The road isn’t always straight, there can be sharp turns, hills, and valleys, that we have to manoeuvre through.
When I feel really low on energy, angry or sad, I know that I’m off balance somehow. I might have over scheduled myself, been up too late, eating too much sugar or food that doesn’t agree with my body, talking too much, doing too much or too little, being around too many people. Maybe I have been ignoring my feelings. Then I know I need to change something in my routine.
Finding Balance
What does it mean to be balanced? According to the dictionary balance means: a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. So in order to be balanced we need to know the different elements. We need to figure out and pay attention to what’s bringing us off balance, as well as what’s keeps us in balance. Are you up late at nights? Are you on the computer to much? Is it that you are over indulging in food or alcohol? We also need to know what keeps us in balance. What makes you feel good? Is it having a regular exercise routine? Eating healthy? Spending time with friends that makes you feel good? The more we pay attention to when we feel good, the easier it is to come back to that place over and over again, and then eventually we can be in that state more and more, until one day we live there. When we live in that state we have then taken control over our life, our actions, and choices in our life.
I also believe that it comes down to how much we love ourselves. Just as it is important to do self care. It doesn’t mean we can’t have fun! We still have to live! Let’s be good most of the time, but then let’s have a piece of chocolate or let’s go dancing and stay up late once in a while, as long as it’s not every day.
For myself I like to check in every day in the morning by doing meditation and some journaling by setting intentions for the day, and then some meditation and gratitude journaling in the evening as well. Everyday I’ll do yoga somewhere, my yoga practice totally depends on how I feel. I try to listen to my body and soul. What is it that I need today? Do I need a more restorative practice because I’ve been really busy during the day, or do I feel like I need a more vigorous practice to let some feelings out. I might get a Reiki session, or perform Reiki on myself, to balance my chakras. The kinder and more loving I’m to myself, the easier it is to find balance I my life. I feel at home in my body and soul, I feel safe in myself. I can lean back and be me.
